In January 2005 a meeting was held in Congress about the vulnerability of U.S. coastal area tsunamis in the Atlantic. Some members of Congress and the Bush administration team have proposed a tsunami warning network for the U.S. Atlantic Seaboard, Golf of Mexico and the Caribbean sea.
The plan initially includes deploying 32 new dedicated tsunami warning and detection buoys by mid 2007 at the earliest, these would be deployed in the Pacific, Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean seas to protect U.S. coastal areas. Obviously with a warning system in place the emergency services are notified first then the warning would be broadcast through the news, radio and sirens. Our warning system would notify you directly to your pager or cell phone whatever your doing or where ever you are night or day our system is in place right now.
These talks have only taken place since the Indian Ocean tsunami tragedy that occurred because there simply was no warning in place. Had there been a warning system to notify the people the death toll would have been a lot less if any at all.
